Brignoles

The town of Brignoles, situated at the crossroads of the centre Var region, was the place of residence of the Counts of Provence during the 12th Century. A typical delightful Provencal town, it has all of the amenities associated with a small town.

The surrounding area is steeped in history, particularly Christianity. Mary Magdalene (see the Da Vinci Code) spent the last years of her life in the nearby Sainte-Baume Cave.

Brignoles has always been a famous location due to its fair which is one of the largest in Provence. There are some interesting museums in the town to visit, ancient Churches and Castle, and for the golf enthusiast there is the 18 hole golf course “Golf de Barbaroux”. Annual events include a Piano and Jazz festival. Brignole’s local market takes place on Wednesday and Saturday mornings.

The excellent Coteaux Varois wines are produced by 28 villages to be found from Brignoles to the foothills of Sainte-Baume.
