In the northern part of the Var region is the magnificence canyon known as “Gorges du Verdon”, largest in Europe and second only in the world to the Grand Canyon in Colorado, USA.
This is a place of beauty and tranquillity, white peaks gleaming in the sun against the blue sky. Sparkling translucent green water runs through the white limestone as rivers, waterfalls and lakes. A paradise for white-water rafting, canoeing, swimming, climbing, walking, horse riding etc.
Ancient traditional crafts are to be found in pretty villages. Varages, Salernes and Aiguines are known for pottery, enamel tiles and woodwork. Cotignac, with its famous Tuesday market, is home to many celebrities and artists. The red earth and white rocks of Verdon produce an exceptional olive oil and honey as well as the rare truffles, which can be found at “Aups” market, from November to March.
