Bormes-les-Mimosas, South of France

Dating back to the 12th Century the mediaeval village Bormes-les- Mimosas is one of the most beautiful places to visit in the VAR.

Houses are covered in pink tiles, and small squares and alleyways filled with mimosa, wisteria and jasmine, delight your senses. The “Place de Lou Poulid Cantoun” is regarded as the most picturesque and photographed square in Bormes.

In this mild climate and exceptional light, plants and flowers flourish. Varieties of tropical plants and flowers from Mexico, North Africa, India and China can be found, including 60 different varieties of mimosa whose vibrant colours and scents drape the village between December and February, like a shawl around the shoulders of a beautiful woman.

The village offers panoramic views of the plains and across the bay to “Iles d’Or” (the golden islands). On a small peninsula in the old fishing hamlet of Cabasson, said to be one of the most beautiful areas in Bormes, is the famous Bregançon Fort erected in the 16th Century and summer residence of the Presidents of France and the Royal families of Belgium and Luxemburg.

Market Day: Wednesday morning.
