The religious fervour of the Middle-Ages led to the erection of many buildings and fortified villages so characteristic of the Central Var region or “Pays Dracénois”. A land of contrasts, its landscapes comprise a fertile plain planted with vines and olive trees to the south and craggy mountains covered in forest of pine and evergreen oaks to the north-east. Capital of the Central Val region, the town of Draguignan is at the crossroads to the Var’s coast and the Verdon area at the Var’s northern limit. Its fine cuisine and Côtes de Provence wines are an essential part of the area’s art of good living. Recreational activities include: Mountain-biking, canoeing, walking and golf.
