Candidates have been selected for the “New Seven Wonders of the World” with the announcement of the “seven” due to take place in July 2007 in Lisbon, Portugal.
With so many “wonders” in our world, to select just seven is not an enviable task.
Those of us who live in parts of the world fortunate enough to enjoy the four seasons, would I am sure, agree with my nomination of spring as the eighth wonder of the world”.
After a long and mostly grey winter livened occasionally with sparkling frost or a covering of snow, white in its purity, to see the first snowdrops emerge from the damp dark earth lifts ones spirit. This first sign that perhaps winter has given way to spring, is followed swiftly by a covering of purple and gold crocus, then the big explosion of yellow daffodils, forsythia and tulips. Spring has arrived with its promise that all is well with the world. This is my eight wonder.
