The White Fairy of Toulon

She caught my attention. Tall, sylphlike, almost surreal. A female vision in white, modestly attempting to cover her nakedness with an expression which seemed to say, “Oh, I forgot to dress myself!” She didn’t move. I looked again, this time seeing her tiny wings. A fairy I exclaimed, a white fairy.

Indeed this dream like creature appeared to me as a fairy. She was the creation of “Marc Gérin – Jean”, sculpteur extraordinaire. Following the sign almost opposite Toulon’s magnificent Opera House, I walked down the “Rue Bon Pasteur” where several artisans were working. Stopping outside of number 3, L’ atelier du “Siai”, I found Monsieur Marc Gérin the creator of “The White Fairy” as I named her. Monsieur Marc Gérin invited me into his workshop. I gasped at the many works of art created by the hands of this master sculptor. Such unique figures and objects. With a wave of his hand he pointed my attention back outside, saying there were many artists in this area, each one deserving my praise.

Next time you are in Provence – Côte d’Azur, take the time out to visit Toulon. If you have a preference for unusual and original works of art, then this is where you will find them.
